At-Large and Zone 3 Director Positions Open

Posted on 04/06/18

Event Date 04/06/18

The Mar Vista Community Council has two open volunteer positions: that of At-Large Director, and Zone 3 Director. We will seek to fill the postions in accordance with Section 6 of our By-laws.

All interested parties should please read the following information about some of what is required of a Board Member of a Neighborhood Council, posted on the LA City Department of Neighborhood Empowerment website (DONE). And here's an article describing what Neighborhood Councils are all about.

It's a lot to read - and all very important to know.

Please understand that these are volunteer positions, as are all the Board positions, and that there's a significant time commitment expected from all Board members on the Mar Vista Community Council (MVCC). We hold a monthly Board of Directors' meeting that lasts from 1-4 hours, including set up and clean up. And there's prep time for those meetings as well.

Plus Board members are expected to Chair or co-Chair a committee, as well as generally participate in the running of the organization. Many of us put in 10-20 hours per week. Some spend more time than that.

All Board members are required to take all necessary City of Los Angeles trainings for elected officials.

Both positions will be appointed by the Chair at the next Board of Directors meeting on Tuesday, April 10th. The term will last until June 2019, at which time the next election will be held. The choice to run again or not would be yours.

According to the MVCC by-laws, Article X Section 6, these are the criteria for the position of At-Large Director:

Candidates must certify in writing that they are Stakeholders of the MVCC in accordance with these Bylaws and Election Procedures approved by the City as follows:

The "At-large" Director candidates must be a Stakeholder who lives, works, or owns property within the stated boundaries of the Council;

Candidates must follow these Bylaws, approved Election Procedures , and MVCC Standing Rules D. Candidates must be eighteen (18) years of age or older.

...and these are the criteria for the position of Zone 3 Director; the map of MVCC's Zone 3 can be seen here – bounded on the North and South by National and Palms Boulevards, East and West by the 405 and Centinela Avenue.

Candidates must certify in writing that they are Stakeholders of the MVCC in accordance with these Bylaws and Election Procedures approved by the City as follows:

 The "Zone" Director candidates must be a Stakeholder who lives, works, or owns property within their respective stated Geographic Zone boundaries;

Candidates must follow these Bylaws, approved Election Procedures , and MVCC Standing Rules D. Candidates must be eighteen (18) years of age or older.

Persons who are interested in applying for the position must write a statement of candidacy, submitted by Friday, April 6th, 2018 at 12pm. Email statements to the Chair, at Rob.Kadota@marvista.org. The names of those submitting statements will be placed on the agenda of the April 10th, 2018 Board meeting. Candidates are encouraged to make a statement at that meeting in support of their candidacy. After that, the Chair shall appoint one candidate and the Board will vote.

Please email the MVCC at info@marvista.org if you have any questions.
